[아주 작은 REVIEW] YDPP / UNB / Eric Nam / Lee Hongki & Yoo Hweseung

Like I mentioned earlier, most of my April review posts will be in 아주 작은 Review format due to overwhelming amount of comebacks that make it hard for me to keep up. This week already will have 2 of these posts, which means covering 8 (!) releases, so if I was doing a review post for each one, I wouldn’t be able to write posts long enough for it to be considered as full review.

Back to the topic. Intentionally skipping Twice comeback (which I will cover quickly on my Twitter), today I’ll be talking about YDPP CF collaboration, debut of UNB, a group coming out from The Uni+Eric Nam‘s long awaited comeback, and wonderful duet between FT Island’s Lee Hongki and N.Flying’s Yoo Hweseung.

YDPP – Love It Live It

Release Date: April 5, 2018

What’s interesting about this song:

Another best friends tandem from Produce 101 season 2 – MxM’s Lim Youngmin & Kim Donghyun, Starship’s soloist Jeong Sewoon and yet-to-debut Lee Kwanghyun – assemble together for a CF collaboration! Could it be any better? YES! Love It Live It is a funky retro-pop dance track that at first look might not seem interesting enough until the sudden adlib from Jeong Sewoon! The track is overall made to bright up everyone’s mood, and can we, please, appreciate Lim Youngmin’s VOCALS?

UNB – Sense

Release date: April 7, 2018

What’s interesting about this song:

UNB is a boy group consisting of winners from this year’s KBS survival show The Uni+, where already debuted but not non popular idols get their second chance to shine. Sense is a very tasteful song for a debut release. The beginning synth is already captivating. Also later the instrumental goes the still trendy EDM way, it doesn’t seem overused or boring, unlike many other track in the same genre that I’ve heard over 2017. Both vocal and rap lines are amazing, enough to keep the group’s image as overall performers. Also their choreography is LIT.

Eric Nam – Potion (feat. Woodie Gochild)

Release date: April 10, 2018 (album release 2018/04/11)

What’s interesting about this song:

Eric Nam has a very clear pattern of song releases: he manages to easily swap between emotional R&B ballads and funky dance tracks. So after a very soothing yet strong ballad Hold Me, Eric makes his official comeback with Potion, a song with a very different upbeat sound compared to previous releases. The song is very Western public friendly, and is an absolute perfect bop for summer times. I was a bit doubtful when I first heard the teaser, but eventually it didn’t disappoint me at all. LOVE IT.

Lee Hongki & Yoo Hweseung – Still Love You

Release date: April 8, 2018

What’s interesting about this song:

Y’ALL NEED TO STAN N.FLYING’S POWERHOUSE VOCAL YOO HWESEUNG!
This song delivers nothing but raw emotional vocals, spiced up with rock ballad elements, and GOD DAMN that 6-note adlib from Yoo Hweseung (read the comment that it goes: G#4 – A4 – B4 – C#5 – E5 – F#5. WHAT A BEAST)! The vocal harmony between veteran vocalist and newly added N.Flying member is mesmerizing. This needs to be appreciated A LOT.
