My top-10 favorite K-pop releases of 2019 so far (1st half year edition)

Don’t you feel like 2019 is passing by way too fast? I think this goes to every single year when we’re not completely as productive as we wished us were, but oh well—anyways, we’re already at the almost end of July, and I’m guilty of not only updating my platforms as often as I promised but also of how I haven’t given you my top-10 favorite releases from this year! So without further ado, let’s jump into my list.

Here, on the blog version, I’ll be giving out my list of 10 favorite releases that only feature title tracks—however, I will soon post photos of a spread from my newly started k-pop journal containing 12 actual songs released in 2019 that I loved to the core (there’s not much of a difference, don’t worry!). Continue reading, because at the end I’m gonna have another major change announcement to my blog 😉

All songs are listed in no particular order.

Review: NU’EST Happily ever after Epilogue behind book & NU’EST Road photo essay

For any K-pop fan out there, collecting official merchandise is no strange thing. It’s never obligatory because we all come from different backgrounds with different financial abilities, but it’s always nice to own an official item to show support to your favorite artist.

Today I’ll be doing a double review in double form – text and video – of my two most recent NU’EST related purchases. The video version is mostly made for the purpose of doing a quick flip-through, while this text version will give you a more in-depth opinion on the items. If you prefer the audio-visual format, scroll down for the YouTube video link, otherwise – keep reading~

Weekly recap: June 17-23

Hi everyone!

Another week has passed, and oh wow, it IS hectic on K-pop market! It’s getting harder to keep up with most releases, that I don’t know whether I should be a bit more selective with releases I review on these weekly recaps or not. I don’t think I can pull out a post of my impression to 6+ songs, so, in case it gets even more hectic, I probably will have to be picky with what I write about on my platform.

Also I figured out that publishing a review on weekend doesn’t work with me at all, because I want to be busy with preparing the visual aspect of my blog/YouTube channel, and it’s impossible to film/take pictures for 4-5 hours straight and then sit down and write a 3000 word long review that could end up being insincere. So from now on, all Weekly recaps will be published on Mondays instead of Sundays.

Now, back to reviewing, this recap features releases from: Leo of VIXX, SF9Yesung of Super Junior, and Red Velvet. I’m intentionally skipping reviewing Stray Kids because their music is completely out of my style, and I can’t judge it in a neutral way, sorry to all Stays out there.

Weekly K-pop recap: June 10-16, 2019

Another week has passed, and even more K-pop releases came our way. It’s such a never ending cycle. Some of them may stay in your playlist, and for others… you might have to click that “skip” button. Tell you what – that is completely okay to not like a song. When it comes to music, there’s no definition to the “right” or “wrong” preference.

Let’s take a look at the new songs from this week? We have releases from Ateez, TVXQ’s Yunho, Noir, Ong Seongwu and Jeon Somi.

Weekly K-pop recap: June 3-9, 2019

There’s no end to new K-pop releases, and with such big amount of new content incoming every single day, it’s hard to keep up with them without eventually feeling emotionally drained. And if you’re ever a writer of reviews, you can probably relate to those times when you just don’t feel like reviewing anything because you got so overwhelmed with new songs to check out. And that’s why I’m changing from having two review sections for K-pop to writing only one, but hopefully more effective than those before.

So in this week’s K-pop recap we have: Sandeul of B1A4, WJSN, fromis_9 and Teen Top.

Just a quick mention: all the releases I mention here are listed in the Wikipedia article which I use as my database of all new albums/singles.

My 8 most favorite K-pop albums of 2018

Hello!

After completing my Top 18 K-pop songs of 2018 list the other day, I thought that I can’t just leave out the album evaluations, and so, here’s my quick list of 8 most beloved albums of 2018. I must say, there are few EPs that impressed me more in its overall composition and completion than the included tracks on their own, so there will be titles you never saw coming because they weren’t on my mentioned Top 18 list.

Shall we dig in?

18 K-pop songs that made my 2018

Well, hello there.

My end of the year has been pretty messy, and it affected my plans for a proper reboot very severely, I’d say. Nonetheless, I have made some major changes to this blog (which I’ll talk about in details in my future posts), but for now – let’s do some rankings!

Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep up with all releases for the second half of 2018, so my list is pretty much very biased towards acts I know from long before, and there are barely any new (as of, I’ve never talked about them) names. Usually I’d do rankings month by month, but somehow most of this year’s releases didn’t leave a deep impression on me, so instead of a long list I’ll be talking about 18 songs that made my 2018.

[아주 작은 REVIEW] Soyeon, Chungha, Seulgi, SinB / NU’EST W / Yuri (SNSD) / Super Junior

Erm… Hi.

Okay, probably I hurried a little bit with my “grande” return from hiatus, as some of my life issues hasn’t been solved yet, hence I still didn’t schedule up all my daily routine to stick to in order to keep up with daily chores and blogging. But I’ll get there soon! Really soon. Probably by the 1st anniversary of the blog. Pssst.

So, before I disappear again for god knows how many more days, let me do a quick review of some latest releases I enjoyed? Today I have a craaaazy collaboration from Station 0NU’EST W (who I’m apparently seeing in Bangkok super soon), Yuri of SNSD, and Super Junior.

Comeback from hiatus + Favorite releases of summer 2018!

Well hello, fellow k-pop fans!

It’s truly been a while since my last blog entry. Like I announced on Twitter, I took a break to focus on exams I had to take in order to prepare my application documents for Masters program. Unfortunately, I didn’t get enough scores, so I’m gonna take another one in two more weeks, but since it’s less pressuring for me, I thought that it’s perfect time to slowly come back to blogging. I feel more energetic (guess the pun) than before, and so I’m ready to strike again with reviews and discussion posts!

But first of all, let me just thank you all for staying with me. Even during my 2-month hiatus, my visit stats have remained stable, and this was the biggest surprise. Usually all your traffic comes from the frequency of new content, and seeing how the number of views on my pages stays relevant throughout my break makes me want to work even harder on all the future content. Thank you very, very much. I highly appreciate all of your support.

Now, onto revealing my short list.
Obviously, it will be impossible for me to review every single release that I’ve missed, so instead, I’ll be doing a quick list of new songs I loved so much I destroyed the replay button (hahahahaha). Mostly I listened to title tracks of all releases, the only exceptions when I took time to listen to the rest of the album were Leo, Sunmi, Jeong Sewoon, iKON, Oh My Girl, LOONA and Dreamcatcher’s minis. I chose 13 tracks (10 title and 3 b-sides) for this quick list, as 13 is my lucky number. All songs are listed in release order.

[Review] SEVENTEEN – Oh My! (YMMD is the best SVT album I’ve heard so far)

SEVENTEEN is back with their 5th mini album You Make My Day, and can we talk about how this is possibly THE BEST album they’ve released until today?

I became a casual SVT fan since the beginning of this year after I was totally blown away by Clap and, while was gearing for Thanks promotions, I did a [GOING THROUGH] Seventeen’s discography. I really like when a group establishes a style that’s easy to recognize, meaning when you listen to a song and think, “Ah! This is very Seventeen.” And this is exactly what You Make My Day is as well.

So let’s go and see what’s so good about this whole damn mini album?
